Lloyd’s of London

In London’s iconic Lloyd’s Building, architects Basha-Franklin have created an award-winning futuristic workspace for tech company Velonetic.

As part of their innovative material palette for the project, Basha-Franklin commissioned this Spelk tabletop as a focal point in the flexible workspace.

The wide table creates a central workstation with an integrated raised planter that echoes the curved chrome base. The Spelk surface creates a bold juxtaposition of textures against the high-tech materials of the space. Spelk’s inclusion in this palette of contrasting soft and hard materials, creating impact against the brutalist backdrop of an iconic interior.

Within the project, homage is paid to the Grade I-listed building’s heritage, its radical inside-out aesthetic and its brutalist industrial interiors. Basha-Franklin celebrates the architectural complexity of the building, referencing the the curved stainless-steel forms of the exterior as well as the concrete coffered ceiling and original light fittings, a distinct feature that repeats across the entire building.

The Spelk tabletop, in colourway ‘Shoal’, combines tones of navy, seafoam blue and natural timber strands. It creates a dynamic yet sleek anchor point amidst the lively material palette.
