about

Orla Lawn is a Liverpool-based Irish artist and designer working in material innovation and interior surface design. A graduate of the Royal College of Art, where she studied Mixed Media Textile Design, she has a background in Architecture and a First Class Honours Degree in Textile Design from Central Saint Martins. Her work often bridges the fields of craft and construction.

Working with combinations of many hard and soft materials, from concrete, wood and resin to silk, foam and chocolate, her work to date has explored tactility in the built environment and the boundaries between textiles and interiors.

Developed at the Royal College and inspired by the expressive use of materials in early twentieth-century interiors, Spelk is the innovative result of Lawn’s in-depth research into hybrid craft processes and tactility in the built environment.
